Managers are encouraged to conduct reference checks for any finalists. For faculty, credentialing is another important step before hire.
REFERENCE CHECKS
As part of the reference check process for finalists, managers should:
- Ask that references include at least one prior supervisor.
- Let candidates know before they begin contacting references and request permission before contacting their current employer.
- Prepare questions related to candidate’s prior work performance and competencies.
- Avoid questions designed to solicit information about candidates' race, ethnicity, color, national origin, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, medical and genetic history, age, ancestry, marital status, veteran status, family/childcare situation or other protected characteristics.
For internal candidates, managers are encouraged to contact the employee’s current supervisor.
FACULTY CREDENTIALING
All faculty credentials must be reviewed by Academic Affairs. Faculty hiring managers should complete, copy and paste the "Recommendation for Hire Form" below into the application notes section in Workday for candidates selected for hire. After entering this information in Workday, the manager should move the candidate forward to "Credentialing".
Once credentialing has been completed, the hiring manager will receive an inbox item in Workday to confirm the candidate has the appropriate qualifications. If the candidate meets this requirement, the manager can move forward to offer. If the candidate does not meet this requirement, the manager should communicate with their HR Generalist for guidance.
